WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that there is only one true God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and that God has called us to be a diverse family of believers serving God and our world in unity and love. We believe God created the world and declared it good. We believe Sin entered the world and our lives in ways that separate us from God and each other, leading us away from the perfect plan God has for our lives and our world. Christ came to rescue us from that Sin and demonstrate for us the life that God would have all of us live. Forgiven and redeemed by grace through faith, the Holy Spirit empowers us to live the lives God created us to live. We believe the Bible is God’s Word that reveals to us the Word of God that is Jesus Christ. Our beliefs can be summed up in the ancient words of the Apostle's Creed and Q&A #1 of the Heidelberg Catechism below.
Often, people will ask us: "What is your churches position on ________?"
Our answer is, that Peace Church is made up of many different people who come with a wide variety of beliefs on various social, political, and theological issues. Our belief is that the centrality of Christ is essential, and we leave room for agreement or disagreement on those other topics.
We understand that for some, this isn't clear enough, and that's ok. Peace Church is a place where everyone is welcome.
HEIDELBERG CATECHISM Q&A 1
What is your only comfort
in life and death?
That I am not my own,
but belong with body and soul,
both in life and in death,
to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins
with his precious blood,
and has set me free
from all the power of the devil.
He also preserves me in such a way
that without the will of my heavenly Father
not a hair can fall from my head;
indeed, all things must work together
for my salvation.
Therefore, by his Holy Spirit
he also assures me
of eternal life
and makes me heartily willing and ready
from now on to live for him.
THE APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
