CHILDREN'S MISSIONS

At Peace Church, we believe it is important to teach our children to help others. By encouraging them to support missions, they learn to help others as well as share the Good News.

In Sunday School, we encourage our children to think of others by collecting an offering every week. We support different mission organizations each month, ranging from close-to-home missions like Urban Ventures in Minneapolis to far-away missions like the McAuley's, RCA missionaries in Malawi, Africa.

In FaithWeaver Friends, our Wednesday evening program from children, we do not collect an offering but we encourage our children to think of others and their world by suggesting other "mission" projects for them to participate in. These projects include collecting pop-can tabs for the Ronald McDonald house, shoeboxes of gifts for Operation Christmas Child, collecting toiletry, food and clothing items for those in need. Children are encouraged to donate the designated food item each month for the local food shelf. In addition, many classes make items for Moving Meals and retirement homes.

Hands-on involvement in missions. While the children may not be able to pack up and head overseas for a major mission project, they learn that they can still have a global impact on their counterparts in other lands.

Kenya. Adult mission teams at Peace Church built a preschool in Kenya, and provide ongoing support. The kids at Peace got involved by assembling bags of school supplies, which where distributed by the next adult mission team.

Haiti. After hearing Lindsay Pruis talk about her experience in the Haiti earthquake, the children assembled hygiene kits containing supplies such as soap, towels, and toothbrushes. The kits were shipped to Haiti and distributed to people who were left with nothing because of the earthquake.
